PHOENIXVILLE, PA- The women's basketball team recorded their first win of the season with a come from behind victory over Penn State Lehigh Valley. Down at the half, 29-37, the Patriots rallied to sieze the victory, 68-64!
It was a fast paced game as both teams seemed equally matched. The lead changed hands multiple times before the first period had reached the half-way point, with the Patriots largest advance coming at the 11:59 mark, when they held a six point advantage, 17-11. Unfortunately, a slew of missed shots and turnovers allowed the Lions to gradually take control of the game. As the teams headed into their locker rooms, the Lions were up on the Patriots, 37-29.
Refusing to back down, the Patriots wrestled with the Lions to gain ground on the score. As the clock ran down, it appeared that the Patriots would be unable to break the flow of the Lions' defense and scoring. Finding her second wind, freshman forward
Ariene Ohimor started to change the tide, being almost unbeatable at the boards, grabbing 12 in the second half. Following suit, the women started to come on stronger and slowly knocked away shot after shot to tie the game, 57-57, with just less than five minutes left to play. As the game started to get physical and the intensity rose, the Patriots managed to stay right on the heels of the Lions, tying them four times and refusing to let them get any further ahead than two points. With four seconds left to go, Ohimor made good on a layup to put the Patriots up by two, 66-64. The Lions played an unfortunate foul, placing Mikayla Brinson on the line. Sinking both free throws and with one second left on the clock, the Patriots had secured their first home and season victory, 68-64!
