Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Patriots Score Twice, Fall to Aggies

DOYLESTOWN, PA – The Valley Forge Christian College men's soccer team suffered another loss on Tuesday, October 7, falling to the Aggies of Delaware Valley College by a 10-2 final score.

The Patriots started off strong, pressuring the ball well and creating scoring opportunities early on. The Aggies were able to get on the board first, drilling a hard shot past VFCC net-minder Robert Taylor from eight yards out in the nineteenth minute. Ten minutes later, VFCC's Jonathan Manning knotted the score, beating the Delaware Valley keeper. Manning was assisted by Jonathan Hadinger. This was Manning's, and Valley Forge's first goal since September 22.

The Aggies re-took the lead just two minutes later, and added another in the 41st minute before VFCC senior Matthew McKenzie netted his team leading fourth goal of the season, ripping a shot into the upper ninety. Jonathan Hadinger would record his second assist on the day. Delaware Valley would add another goal late in the first half to take a 4-2 lead at halftime.

The Patriots regrouped at halftime, and felt confident that their offense would be able to add a few more goals in the second half to steal the game, but that was not to be as things fell apart shortly into the second half. Just six minutes into the second the Aggies added to their lead, scoring off a corner kick. Things would only get worse for the Patriots as Delaware Valley added three goals in the 69th minute, knocking the wind out of the Patriots, and coasting to the victory.

Head Coach Vernon Dorsey stated after the game; "We played a very good first half, but mental lapses were our downfall in the second. Jonathan Manning played his best game of the season this afternoon, and Aaron Bishop played with tremendous hustle."

VFCC keeper Robert Taylor recorded fourteen saves on the day.

The Patriots will take this weekend off before traveling to Reading, PA for a game against Penn State Berks on Monday, October 14. Kick-off is scheduled for 3:30 pm.
