PHOENIXVILLE, PA- The Valley Forge Christian College women's volleyball team lost a heartbreaking game to Central Penn College, Tuesday October 15. Weighing themselves down with serving and hitting errors, the Patriots fell to the Knights in three straight sets, 0-3.
From the start of the first set the Lady Patriots appeared to be out of sync. Limited communication on the floor and unforced errors placed the home team in a scramble against the Knights. The Patriots stayed right behind the visitors but could not find a way to finish strong. Repeatedly caught in transition the Patriots were forced to give back free balls and pushes instead of their usual powerful attacks. Digging a hole deeper and deeper with errors the gap in score widened as time was running out.Â
Toward the end of the third set the ladies started to make a late surge and come together as a team, but with no room for errors, the game ended in the Knight's favor.
"We just didn't move as a team until it was too late. We played as six individuals instead of one team. We need to play with a sense of urgency from the start and till the very end" stated Head Coach Amanda Gauthier.
Katie Clarke led at the net with 12 kills and one block along with 10 digs. Courtney Farabee played solid in the back with 16 digs.
Kayleigh Smith added eight kills to the night while Aubrie McQuown recorded 12 digs.
The Lady Patriots hit the road for their next game against College of Notre Dame Maryland. The Gators host the Patriots at 7 pm!
Go Patriots!
