BETHLEHEM, PA. – The Valley Forge Christian College women's basketball team competed in the consolation finals of the 12
th Greyhound Starters Classic, Thursday, January 03, 2013. The Patriots were matched up against Neumann University and were defeated, 74-55.
Neumann controlled the first half as they took a 38-20 lead into the locker room. A three-pointer from senior guard
Amanda Reich brought the Patriots within three points of the lead at 21-18 with 5:42 remaining in the first half. That was as close as the Patriots would get as Neumann went on a 17-2 by the end of the period.
The Patriots battled in the second half but wouldn't get any closer than nine points of the lead as the Knights went onto win, 55-74. The Patriots shot just 34% from the field and were out-rebounded 37-51. The Patriots also committed 21 turnovers in the game.
Amanda Reich was named to the Greyhound Starters Classic All-Tournament team. Reich put up a game high and personal season high of 28 points, in addition to five rebounds.
Senior
Morgan Godwin added 12 points, three rebounds, three assists and two steals in the contest.
Vanity Jones grabbed 13 rebounds, 2 steals and two blocks.
Amanda Compton added five points, seven rebounds and five blocks.
The Patriots take a short break and return to the court on Thursday, January 10, 2013. They will compete against Trinity University in the first round of the 25
th Annual Assemblies of God Tournament. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 pm!
