PHOENIXVILLE, PA- The Valley Forge Christian College women's basketball team competed in the first round of the Assemblies of God Classic tonight, Thursday, January 10, 2013, against Trinity Washington University. The Patriots defeated the Tigers, 48-42 and snapped a four game losing skid!
Trinity was able to make the first scoring play, going up 2-0, but back to back baskets from beyond the arc by
Morgan Godwin jumpstarted the Patriots offense. The women would stay up through-out the half, but a quick and aggressive Lady Tigers team never let Patriots get ahead by double-digits. The Patriots would be up by just three points going into the break, 23-20.
Starting the second half, the Patriots went on an 11-2 run, and hoped to maintain their comfortable lead. However, a series of turnovers and missed baskets allowed the Tigers to slip back into the game. After a quick time-out from their bench, the Lady Patriots came back energized and controlling their errors, closing the door on the Tigers hopes of victory.
The Patriots held the edge on rebounds, grabbing 46 boards compared to the Tigers 39. While the Patriots committed more turnovers, 18-11, they were able to make good with their free-throws, scoring 56% from the line compared to the Tigers 47%.
