Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Lady Patriots Fall in Overtime

LaPlume, PA – On Saturday (Jan. 26) the Valley Forge Christian College women's basketball team dropped an overtime thriller against the Keystone College Giants by a final score of 67-66.  The Lady Patriots (T-7th NCCAA II) now find themselves sitting on an 8-11 overall record with just six games remaining the regular season.

Valley Forge opened the game strongly, leading by as many as seven points early in the first half.  After falling behind in the waning minutes of the first half, the Lady Patriots took a five point deficit into the locker room at the halftime break.

In the second half, Valley Forge closed the gap and took the lead with 10:00 remaining in regulation.  Both teams traded baskets, and the lead, down the stretch.  With less than one minute to play Amanda Compton drained the bonus free throw after being fouled on a made jumper to tie the game.  Coach LeVan called a timeout with 0:02 to play to setup the winning shot, but Amanda Reich would miss a distant three-pointer at the buzzer sending it to overtime.

After trading buckets in the overtime period, Valley Forge found themselves down by one with just seconds to play.  They sent Keystone to the line, stopping the clock and giving themselves a chance to win.  After a missed free throw, Vanity Jones was able to grab the defensive board and heave a long three pointer at the buzzer that could not find its mark as the final horn sounded.

The key to victory today for the Giants over VFCC came in the overtime period as Keystone outscored the Lady Patriots 12-11 with nine of their points coming off of second chance opportunities.

In the loss, senior Amanda Reich finished with a season high 34 points.  Reich hit a personal season best six shots from beyond the three point arc.

Senior Amanda Compton finished with 17 points and eight rebounds.

Senior Vanity Jones was superb on the boards, grabbing a game high 17 rebounds, including 12 defensive boards.  Jones also finished with a game high 10 assists.

Up next for the Lady Patriots will be an away game at Rosemont College on Tuesday (Jan. 29).  The Ravens are 11-7 on the season including an 8-3 CSAC Conference record.  This will be a true test for the Lady Patriots as they look to close the regular season strong.
