Patriots Win Over Knights

PHOENIXVILLE, PA - The Valley Forge Christian College Patriots won on a snowy, wintry Friday night (Jan. 25), by a final score of 89-67 over the Knights of Berkeley College (NJ). Due to the weather conditions, tonight's game was delayed for the better part of an hour, but the Patriots used that time to loosen up and get ready for game time.

After a slow opening five minutes of play sophomore Kevin Mack netted a layup from inside the paint, was fouled, and finished off the three point play draining his free throw. Valley Forge would take the lead 9-8 and would not look back. After trading baskets for the next few minutes, the Patriots would begin to pull away midway through the first half, and would hold a 45-32 lead at the break. VFCC would lead by as many as 16 points in the waning minutes of the first half.

A 10-2 run to open the second half was all Valley Forge would need to win, opening their lead to 23 points. The Patriots would open their lead to as many as 37 points and would cruise to the win. Berkeley would win the last five minutes of play, outscoring Valley Forge 20-7. This marks the fourth straight win over Berkeley College for head coach Jon Mack.

Valley Forge controlled the boards tonight, grabbing 45 rebounds to Berkeley's 24, including 17 offensive boards. The Patriots also hit a season high eight three-pointers in the game.

Leading the Patriots to victory tonight was junior Lance Harris, who finished with a game high 19 points and six assists. Harris was 7-for-7 from the charity stripe.

Senior Donnell Davis finished with 13 points for Valley Forge, draining a game high three 3-pointers in the process.

Sophomore Kevin Mack added 11 points to the scoreboard, while freshman Jordan Harmon scored a season high 10 points in twelve minutes of play (also a season high).

Freshman Domenick Bond played a wholesome game, netting eight points, grabbing seven rebounds, and blocking two shots.

The Patriots will hit the road on Monday (Jan. 28) to play the Profs of Rowan University. Rowan stands at 13-5 on the season, and has beaten Valley Forge in two out of three meetings in the past three seasons.
