Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's Basketball Lets Victory Slip Away in Final Minutes

MEDIA, PA- The women's basketball team traveled to Media, Pa., January 22, 2013, to compete against Penn State Brandywine.  Despite holding the leading for the majority of the game, the Patriots eventually fell to the Lions, 69-76.

From the beginning of the game it was anyone's guess who would win.  The lead changed hands six times in the first half alone.  Down to the final minutes in the first half, the Patriots were able to maintain a small lead.  Then, with 35-seconds left, an ill-timed turnover gave the Lions a chance to score and tie.  Senior Vanity Jones was able to draw a foul and step-up to the foul-line.  Sinking both her shots, the Patriots were now up by two and would take that lead into the break, 34-32.

The second period's start almost mirrored the first.  The score would change hands and tied seven times within the first five minutes.  Then, after a quick time-out from the bench, the Patriots were able to grapple the lead, and hold on down to the last four minutes.  At that point, the Lions changed up their game plan.  Instead of penetrating toward the net, the Lady Lions started to attack from beyond the perimeter.  Three-pointer after three-pointer nabbed them the lead and eventually the win.

The Patriots were held to just 42% shooting in the paint, compared to the Lions' 46%.  Although the Patriots were able to out-rebound the Lions, 34-31, they committed four more turnovers, 12-8.

In the loss Amanda Compton played a terrific game, adding another double-double to the season with a game high 28 points and 15 rebounds.

Morgan Godwin notched 17 points on the night.

Vanity Jones grabbed 13 boards, along with eight points and four assists.

Amanda Reich passed out nine assists and grabbed four boards.  Reich was held to just nine points in the game.

The Patriots get a few days of rest, returning to the court, Saturday, January 26, 2013.  The Patriots will travel to La Plume, Pa. to compete against Keystone College at 1pm.
