PHOENIXVILLE, PA- The Valley Forge Christian College women's basketball hosted the College of Notre Dame Maryland today, January 19, 2013. The Patriots cruised to victory, defeating the Lady Gators with a final score of 67-32.
Looking to bounce back from their loss to East Region rival, Baptist Bible College, the Patriots started off the game right, with a layup by Senior
Whitney LaPointe, three seconds into the first half. From that point on, the ladies played as a solid team, pressuring on defense and converting on offense. At 14:31 the Patriots hit their stride, going on a 21-3 run, making the score 34-8. The Ladies held their lead into the break, 41-10.
A great moment for the team came just before the end of the first half, senior forward
Amanda Compton scored on a layup, recording her 1,001th points!
Into the second half, the Patriots shooting percentage only went up, going from 53% to 60% and continual pressure on defense held the Gators off. The coaching staff was able to give the bench ample playing time, scoring a total of 15 points for their team.
The Patriots ended the night shooting 55% from the paint, compared to the Gators 20%. The Patriots also held the rebounds advantage, 47-15.
Senior
Amanda Compton scored a game high 19 points, along with eight rebounds and one steal.
Morgan Godwin recorded 17 points, four rebounds, five assists and three steals.
Amanda Reich added 11 points, eight rebounds, one assists and one steal.
Vanity Jones grabbed 11 rebounds in addition to five assists and four steals.
The women's basketball team returns to the hardwood, Tuesday, January 22, 2013. The women travel to Media, Pa. to compete against Penn State Brandywine at 6pm.
