CLARK SUMMIT, PA- The Valley Forge Christian College women's basketball team hit the road to compete against Baptist Bible College. The Defenders played hard, causing 19 turnovers and grabbing more boards to defeat the Patriots, 43-53.
The game got off to a rocky start for the Patriots, making their first play a foul against
Amanda Reich, eight seconds in. It was a foreshadowing of how the half would go, with the Patriots trailing the Defenders in every statistical category. Despite the turnovers, the Patriots were able to stay right behind the Defenders, trailing 13-16 with just under five minutes left.
However, by the end of the period the Defenders went on a small run to lead the Patriots, 15-22 going into the break.
The second period proved just as disappointing for the Patriots, who despite several small runs were unable to lead or tie the game.
Amanda Reich, who had been held to just four points in the first half, did her best to get the Patriots in the running, scoring 17 points in the second half. Sadly, with three of their four starters facing foul trouble with ten minutes left in the period, Patriots were forced to play safe and continued to fall behind. In addition to be being out-rebounded, 26-36, the Patriots committed 19 turnovers giving the Defenders just enough edge to secure their victory.
Amanda Reich scored 21 points for the Patriots.
Amanda Compton grabbed 10 boards, along with four points, two assists and one steal.
Morgan Godwin recorded 12 points and two steals.
Vanity Jones notched six rebounds, four assists and three steals.
The Patriots return home for the next game, Saturday, January 19, 2013. They will host Notre Dame of Maryland Gators at 3 pm.
