CLARKS SUMMIT, PA- The Valley Forge Christian College men's basketball team traveled north to compete against Baptist Bible College, January 16, 2013. The men fell slightly behind in the second period, but came back in the final minutes to defeat the Defenders, 64-59!
For nearly the entire first half the two teams were back and forth, with neither team holding a commanding lead. Then, with just under five minutes to go,
Donnell Davis grabbed a defensive board and went coast to coast to make the score, 27-22, Patriots. The Defenders answered back, making a three-pointer beyond the arc and a lay-up to tie the score. The Patriots heated up their offense, making lay-up after lay-up to take the lead into the break, 35-28!
Returning from the break, the Patriots held on to their lead. As time wore down however, the tables started to turn. The Defenders converted on more shots, going on a 13-4 run, wrapped-up by a three-pointer to tie the game 44-44, with just over 10 minutes to go. The score would change leads and tie several more times before the Patriots took charge just with under two minutes left in the game. Taking advantage of the opportunity at the charity stripe, the Patriots made six of the seven free throws and took the lead till the end of the game!
Jonathan Dukes led the Patriots with 14 points, four steals and four rebounds.
Jean LeBlanc tallied 10 points against the Defenders.
Lance Harris recorded nine points, six rebounds, three assists, and three steals.
Domenick Cain,
Donnell Davis and
Kevin Mack scored eight points each.
The Patriots have a short break, returning to the court January 22, 2013. The men travel to Media, Pa to compete against Penn State Brandywine at 8pm!
