PHOENIXVILLE, PA- The Valley Forge women's basketball team competed in the second day of the Assemblies of God Classic, tonight, January 11, 2013. The game came down the finals seconds, but the Patriots pulled out one of the most exciting victories of the season, defeating the Trinity Bible College Lions, 64-63!
The Lady Lions took control early, going on a 8-2 run and maintaining their lead for the majority of the first period. Trinity's speed and height left the Patriots playing catch-up. The Lions were able to grab nine steals and force 11 turnovers. With just over two minutes left to play in the first period, the Lions were up by 11 points (23-34), and it looked as though they would take the lead into the break. The Patriots had a different opinion. Going on a heart-racing 11-0 run, they tied the game, 34-34 in the final seconds.
As the second period came underway, the Lions pushed the Patriots even harder. Transitioning faster, they started to pull away, gaining a 10 point lead several minutes into the period. After a quick time-out from the bench, the Patriots cleaned up their game and took control. With six minutes left to play, the Patriots gained the first lead of the game, 56-55. Amanda Reich was brought to the foul line. Sinking the first one, the Patriots were now up by one, 64-63. Reich missed her second free-throw allowing Trinity to grab the rebound and race up the court for one last attempt at victory. Amanda Compton went up strong and grabbed the rebound and securing victory for the Patriots!
The Lions held the advantage in steals, grabbing 16 compared to the Patriots 6, along with committing fewer turnovers, 15 to Patriots 20. Valley Forge shot 38% from the field and 33% from the arc, while the Lions shot 30% from the field and 32% from beyond the arc. The deciding factor came down to free-throws, with the Patriots shooting 65% making good on 11 of their 17 shots, while the Lions made 13 of 22, just 59%.

Amanda Reich recorded another double-double with 21 point and 10 rebounds, in addition to four steals and three assists.
Amanda Compton made her presents known with 21 points and 15 rebounds.
Morgan Godwin tallied 11 points, three assists and two steals.
Vanity Jones grabbed 10 rebounds.
The Patriots compete in the final day of the tournament, January 12, 2013. They will go up against Kentucky Christian University, who also remains undefeated in the Classic. Tip-off for the championship game is schedule for 4 pm!!
