PHOENIXVILLE, PA - The Valley Forge Christian College men's basketball team defeated Penn State Lehigh Valley 94-49 on Monday (Feb. 13). Valley Forge opened to a 12-5 lead during the first 5:00 of play, and that is as close as the Nittany Lions would come to the lead. The Patriots led by as many as 23 in the first half, and at the break held a 21 point margin (48-27). After the break, Valley Forge continued to roll, as PSU would score just five points in the first 10:00 of the half. VFCC led by as many as 54 points with just over 7:00 to play, and coasted victory.
Leading the Patriots to victory tonight was senior
Latrell Alford was 5-for-7 from the field en route to a 21 point appearance in just 19:00 played. Alford also went 9-for-12 from the free throw line as well.
Senior
Michael Stum who finished the game with 19 points scored off of a 9-for-14 shooting effort, and 6 rebounds. Stum also finished with a game high 4 steals.
Junior
Donnell Davis finished the game with 13 points and a game, and season high, 9 assists.
Freshman
Michael Ayala was 3-for-6 from beyond the arc and finished with 9 points.
For the Nittany Lions, Renier Riddick finished with a game high 23 points and 8 rebounds, while Ryan Smith finished with the game's only double-double, 11 points and 13 rebounds.
On Thursday (Feb. 16), the Patriots will host NCCAA II East Region rivals, the Chargers of Lancaster Bible College. The victor in Thursday's matchup will claim the top seed in the East Region, and will most likely receive the semi-final round bye in the league championships. The 2
nd East Region seed will play host to the Philadelphia Biblical College Crimson Eagles on Wednesday, February 22, while the top seed will automatically host the championship game played on Friday, February 24.
