PHOENIXVILLE, PA – The Valley Forge Christian College men's basketball team opened up the 2012-2013 season with a victory on their home court. The Patriots defeated The King's College, 93-32.
From the tip, the Patriots looked to employ their traditional full-court pressure defense. They forced several turnovers, which they were able to convert into high percentage transition buckets.
In addition, the Patriots limited The King's College to just 18.4% (9-for-49) shooting from the field and 16.7% (2-for-12) from the three-point line.
Offensively, the Patriots' bench supplied 61 of the team's 93 points.
Although the Patriots held advantages in most statistical categories, they also had their share of mistakes. The Patriots committed 21 turnovers, which is an area of the game that the coaching staff will want to see improve as the season progresses.
In the season opener, freshman
Domenick Bond recorded a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Bond shot 6-for-8 from the floor and tallied three steals.
Freshman Jermaine Purnell also tallied double-digits in scoring. Purnell shot 4-for-5 from the field.
Sophomore
Kevin Mack led the team with five assists. Kasey Koser and
Donnell Davis each finished up with three assists.
Donnell Davis and
Lance Harris each notched four steals.
Jonathan Dukes, Chase Bell, and
Jean LeBlanc each added three steals. As a team, the Patriots tallied 29 steals.
The Patriots must now refocus their attention on Florida Christian, one of the top ranked NCCAA teams in the nation.
Florida Christian opened their Hersha tournament game with a very strong performance and near victory over Southeastern University.
Valley Forge Christian will match up against Florida Christian at 8pm on Friday, November 16, 2012.
