Men's Basketball Ends Skid with East Region Win

Box Score

PHOENIXVILLE, PA
- The VFCC men's basketball team ended their season high, three game losing streak on Thursday night (Jan. 5), defeating East Region opponent Baptist Bible College (Clarks Summit, PA) by a final score of  66-43.  After keeping the game within reach for the first half, BBC found themselves within striking distance of the Patriots.  The second half was all VFCC as the Patriots would pull away to a double digit margin, and never look back.  Valley Forge's full court pressure was too much for the Defenders to handle, as the Patriots forced 25 turnovers, which turned into 29 points off turnovers for the Patriots.  VFCC also held BBC to a season low 31 percent from the floor.

The Patriots were led tonight by senior guard Latrell Alford (Crisfield, MD, Crisfield Senior High School), who recorded a near double-double, 16 points and 9 rebounds.

Senior Michael Stum (Manheim, PA, Manheim Central High School) was also impressive, scoring 10 points, grabbing 9 rebounds, and recording a game, and personal season high, 5 steals.

Senior Justin Kinsey (Philadelphia, PA, International Christian High School) added 11 points and 6 rebounds in his first home game of the 2011-2012 season.

Junior Steve Sims (Willow Grove, PA, Abington High School) and sophomore Lance Harris (Baltimore, MD, Grace Bible Baptist Christian School) also contributed in the game, each with 7 points and 4 steals.

In the loss, Luke Peterson paced the Defenders, recording a double-double on the night, scoring 16 points and grabbing 10 boards.

Up next for the Patriots will be along bus ride to Ankeny, Iowa on Tuesday (Jan. 10) to face the Eagles of Faith Baptist Bible College, followed by a very competitive Assemblies of God Credit Union Classic in Minneapolis, Minnesota next weekend.  The Patriots will open up the classic against the NCCAA II ninth-ranked Spartans of Central Bible College (Springfield, MO) on Thursday (Jan. 12), before facing host school and NCCAA II eleventh-ranked, North Central University on Friday (Jan. 13).  On Saturday, (Jan. 14), the Patriots will face the NCCAA II nineteenth-ranked Trinity Bible College (Ellendale, ND) before traveling home.
