Late Game Meltdown Leads To Tournament Loss

Box Score

BETHLEHEM, PA
- The Valley Forge Christian College men's basketball team suffered an 80-69 loss to Albright College (Reading, PA) on Monday (Jan. 2) during Moravian College's annual classic.  After leading for the majority of the game, the Patriots' defense took a step down and Albright was able to find a rhythm.  It was the Patriots' first game back after a three-week lay-off, and they are hoping to bounce back in the consolation game tomorrow (Jan. 3) against SUNY Old Westbury (Old Westbury, NY).

After a tight first few minutes, the Patriots would pull ahead slightly, and would open to a seven point lead at the 13:00 mark in the first half.  The Lions would keep the game within reach but would find themselves down six points (38-32) at halftime.  The Lions came out after halftime with a pace that the Patriots could not manage to keep up with.  Albright would open the second half on a 9-2 run, momentarily taking over the lead 5:00 into the half.  Both teams would battle for the lead through much of the second half, but with just over 5:00 remaining, it seemed that the Patriots had run out of gas in the waning minutes.  The Lions closed out the game on a 21-13 run to overtake Valley Forge, and hand them their first loss of 2012.

Leading the way for the Patriots was senior guard Latrell Alford (Crisfield, MD, Crisfield Senior High School) who scored a game high 17 points, including shooting 2-2 from beyond the arc,  and also recorded 3 steals.

Senior forward Michael Stum (Manheim, PA, Manheim Central High School) followed with 14 points and 11 rebounds (his fifth double-double of the season).

Senior Justin Kinsey (Philadelphia, PA, International Christian High School), in his first game back with the Patriots after a semester-long hiatus, led the game in rebounds with 12.
