WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Valley Forge Christian College men's basketball team secured a victory against host Gallaudet University on the second night (Nov. 27) of a two-day tournament.
After falling 60-68 to Muhlenberg College on the first night (Nov. 26), the Patriots were able to travel home with a win in hand.
The Patriots defeated Gallaudet University after trailing in the first half (39-40). The Patriots trailed by as many as nine points in a half that was characterized by untimely turnovers and a not-so-great defensive stand.
However, the Patriots rallied in the second half. They nearly cut their turnovers in half and started to take control of the half. After taking the lead (41-40) early in the half, the Patriots pulled away and led by as many as 11 points. Gallaudet came on strong late, but was unable to regain total control of the contest.
In the closing moments, the Patriots' slight edge was enough to force Gallaudet to foul. The Patriots were able to nail the crunch time free-throws in order to secure the win. The final was 78-71.
Senior forward
Michael Stum led all scorers with 26 points. Stum also finished with a team-high six rebounds. He made 10-of-17 shots from the field and shot a perfect 6-for-6 from the free-throw line.
Senior
Latrell Alford also had a good game and good overall tournament. Against Gallaudet, Alford recorded 17 points on 8-of-15 shooting. He also tallied five rebounds and two steals.
Junior point guard
Donnell Davis had a good showing with eight points, six assists, and two steals.
Stevie Sims finished with a team-high three steals.
Sophomore
Lance Harris notched nine points, six rebounds, and two steals.
With the victory, the Patriots improved to 6-2 overall.
Their next contest will be against Davis College on December 3rd.
