PHOENIXVILLE, PA - The Valley Forge Christian College men's basketball team defeated Lancaster Bible College (64-45), at the "Pit" on Thursday (Jan. 20).
It wasn't pretty. It was physical, very sloppy, and neither team shot the ball well. Valley Forge shot 0-for-12 from the perimeter and Lancaster didn't shoot the ball much better (1-for-12). Lancaster turned the ball over 21 times. Valley Forge topped that with 26 miscues. Both teams competed with intensity.
The Patriots gained their edge on the boards and in the paint. The Patriots out-rebounded Lancaster Bible, 45-29, for their second-highest plus margin (+16) of the season. They out-scored them in the paint (48-22) and on second-chance opportunities (18-8).
“Lancaster didn't shoot the ball well, even though that had several good opportunities. I expect that they will shoot much better the next time around,” commented Valley Forge coach, Jon Mack.
Even though Lancaster Bible's shooting woes were uncharacteristic of them, the Valley Forge coaching staff was proud of the overall defensive effort of the Patriots. Lancaster's point total (45) and field goal percentage (28.1%) were season lows for a Valley Forge opponent.
Although the Patriots didn't manage a single three-pointer all night, they did a good job of attacking the basket. Their top three scorers reached double-digits in scoring and did so efficiently.
Justin Kinsey scored a game-high 18 points and shot 7-for-10 from the floor.
Latrell Alford notched his fourth double-double of the season with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Alford also tallied three assists, three blocked shots, and three steals.
Michael Stum earned 14 points. He shot 7-of-10 from the field and grabbed eight rebounds.
Donnell Davis and Steve Sims earned four steals and three steals, respectively.
James Franklin had a game-high six assists.
