Gretchen LeVan

LeVan has completed her eleventh season as Head Women’s Basketball Coach following the completion of her 2022-2023 term. LeVan has captured 101 wins at Valley Forge with 5 double-digit win seasons. In her eleven seasons as head coach, LeVan led the Patriots to five postseason appearances, and captured the 2017-18 ACAA Conference Championship for the program’s first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance in Valley Forge history.

After graduating two pivotal players, the 2019-20 season was a rebuilding period for the Patriots. Four different players earned all-conference honors, in addition to Cayleen Conrad’s Defensive Player of the Year honor.

Following the historic 2017-18 year, LeVan managed a 10-11 record in 2018-19. With a winning record, two Patriots notched all-conference honors, with Jhanel Brown earning her second Defensive Player of the Year honor and an USCAA All-American award.

Valley Forge had a record-breaking season in 2017-18 with a 15-9 overall record, a conference championship, and the program’s first NCAA Tournament berth. Three Patriots tabbed all-conference honors, including Jhanel Brown’s Defensive Player of the Year honor.

LeVan led the Patriots to a 19-5 record after a career-high 14-game winning streak in the 2016-17 season. As a NCAA Division III Independent affiliate, two Patriots secured a spot on the NCCAA First-Team, with one Patriot on NCCAA Second-Team, and another Patriot with Honorable Mention. In addition, Jhanel Brown earned a NCCAA 2nd Team All-American honor, and Mikala Brinson collected a NCCAA 3rd Team All-American honor. To cap off the year, LeVan was awarded Coach of the Year by the Association of NCAA DIII Independents and the NCCAA Mideast Region.

During the 2015-16 campaign, LeVan notched her first winning season with a 14-11 record, earning the Best Coach award at the annual UVF ESPY Award ceremony. Under her wing, three Patriots tallied all-region awards.

As a first-year head coach in 2012-13, LeVan led the Patriots to an impressive 12-14 record, while securing a spot in the NCCAA East Region Conference Tournament.

In her tenure at Valley Forge, LeVan has produced four NCCAA Scholar-Athletes (2013-2017), three ACAA All-Academic athletes (2018-2020), and five Patriot All-Academic Athletes (2016-2020). In addition, she has coached three All-Americans (2013-2020), six Patriots who hit the 1,000-point milestone, and two Patriots who earned the 1,000-rebound milestone.

In 2009, LeVan graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training. LeVan continued her education at Bloomsburg University, graduating with a Master of Science in Athletic Training in Spring 2009.

Before her venture to Steel City, LeVan attended the University of Valley Forge (2003-2005), where she received an Associates of Art in Bible. During her time at Valley Forge, LeVan was a two-year starter on the Women’s Soccer team, receiving the Most Valuable Player award both seasons. LeVan holds the most career goals scored in Patriot history with 24 goals. In addition to soccer, LeVan was a member of the Women’s Basketball team, where she led the team in both assists and steals. As a Patriot, LeVan tabbed a spot on the NCCAA All-Conference and All-Region team. LeVan was also awarded Co-Most Valuable Player, as well as being the recipient of the prestigious O.L. Harrup Award in her final year.
