Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

Finishing Strong: Patriots Closes Out Match with Flair in Volleyball Win

Volleyball took on Brooklyn College as part of their hosted Tri-Match back on March 23rd. After losing a heartbreaking 5th set against Saint Elizabeth University the Patriots were hoping to bounce back. They did so in a huge way, winning in 4 sets! 25-22, 23-25, 25-22, and 26-24!

The first set saw a point for point start before the Patriots went up 6-3 thanks in part to a couple kills by Nathan Whisman. Two more kills by Toby Harris and a Brooklyn mistake brought on a 4 point lead for the Patriots at 11-7. Quite a few errors in a row by Valley Forge helped Brooklyn come back mid-set to take the lead 15-16. A kill by Clay Confer got the Patriots back on track to tie the game at 16 all. Brooklyn tied the game at 17 all before the Patriots went on a 4 point run to take the 21-17 lead. Brooklyn once again tried to fight back, but a Tyler Younger kill when up 24-22 won the set for the Patriots!

Set 2 saw a back and forth battle throughout. Nathan Whisman led the pack with 6 kills of his own with Isaiah Reece and Toby Harris not far behind. The Patriots battled hard but a late 5 point run by Brooklyn after the game was tied at 16 iced the set for Brooklyn and they were able to match the Patriot's first set with one of their own.

Set 3 brought another competitive set with each team going on runs of their own. What started as a back and forth brawl turned into 4 straight for Brooklyn to take a 6-10 lead, but Valley Forge answered with 6 straight of their own to take the 12-10 lead. Isaiah Reece started it off with a kill and Clay Confer led the charge with an Ace of his own! Each team kept going point for point until the Patriots took 4 straight in a 19-19 game to take the 23-19 lead. Once again Brooklyn answered back, but Toby Harris finished the set with a close out kill.

Valley Forge took the early lead in set 4, but lost it quickly as Brooklyn took a 4 point run of their own. The Patriots were able to battle back thanks to kills by Clay Confer and Toby HarrisStreaks were the name of this game however! Brooklyn took another 4 in a row and our Patriots took another 3 straight. Brooklyn would not quit though, fighting back to take 3 more while earning the 10-14 lead. Our men grinded the next 8 of 11 from Brooklyn, with huge help from Nathan Whisman and Tyler Younger. They gave the lead right back after taking it by one, as Brooklyn went on a 3 point run thanks to an error and a bad set. A MASSIVE Ace by Clay Confer tied the game at 21 apiece, but an error gave the lead right back. Back to Back Brooklyn kills saw them take the 22-24 lead, but the Patriots came in clutch! They scored 4 straight points to win the game and Toby Harris sealed the deal on another Ace to ICE the game!

Toby Harris led in Kills (16), Clay Confer led in Aces (3) and Digs (10), Isaiah Reece led in Blocks (3), and Paul Brown led in Assists (33)
