Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Basketball Team Seals Win in Final Moments

On Tuesday February 6th, Men's Basketball went on the road to take on an in-conference rival in Clarks Summit University. Needing a massive win to stay in playoff contention, our boys were able to push the game into overtime after a clutch basket to end the fourth quarter! Then persevered to get the win at 84-81! Bringing the season matchup to 1-1, each team being able to win on the road.

This game was even throughout, with the first half finishing in a two point game and at full time, the game was tied. A few key three point shots by Jeremiah Daye, Keyshawn Kennedy, and Dashawn Goodine got Valley Forge off to a hot start. That flame was doused however as Clarks Summit went on an 11 point unanswered run to bring the score to 13-24 with 7 minutes left in the first half. A run that included back-2-back three pointers by Quinton Renigar and Jeremiah Daye cut the deficit to 3 with just under 4 minutes to go. To close out the half, Keyshawn Kennedy scored 7 straight points to tie the game, but a couple late free throws by Clarks Summit brought a 2 point deficit going into the final 20 minutes. The second half saw a back and forth game, with multiple lead changes. Everytime Valley Forge scored, Clarks Summit answered and vice versa. In a 70-70 game with a minute left, key layups and a couple clutch free throws gave the Defenders the 4 point lead. A well timed Valley Forge timeout with 40 seconds left lit a fire! Jeremiah Daye sank a layup with 36 seconds left and after a massive stop was able to grab another to tie the game with 14 seconds left at 74-74 to take this one to OVERTIME!

20 seconds into Overtime, Jason Bontemps III hit a three to take the lead at 77-74! Clarks Summit would not go away however, going shot for shot with Valley Forge. Some solid team scoring kept us in the lead. A layup by Nasir Bernard accompanied by an and 1! As well as a couple important free throws by Dashawn Goodine helped our men hold on to the lead at 82-81 with a minute and half remaining. Multiple stops and a couple more free throws by Jeremiah Daye closed out the game and brought Valley Forge a much needed victory to keep them in playoff contention!

Next game is at Rosemont College on Saturday February 10th at 1 PM. The Final regular season game is Tuesday February 13th at Home against Keystone College at 7 PM.
