The Patriots took on St. Josephs University of Brooklyn in Wilkes-Barre, PA this past Sunday February 4th. Coming off a tough loss against King's College just an hour before they were looking to bounce back and did in a big way! Clocking another sweep into the books on a 25-14, 25-15, and 25-21 run!
The first set was off to a competitive start with each side matching each other point for point before Valley Forge was able to pull away and go on a 4 point run thanks to two kills by Nathan Whisman. Bringing the score to 13-8. St. Josephs was able to make a push, but that Patriot run gave them the confidence they needed and eventually ran away with the set, finishing on an 8-1 run behind a balanced offensive attack. The second set saw much of the same as our Patriots went out to a 22-8 lead before St. Josephs went on a scoring spree of their own. Another balanced attack saw Toby Harris, Paul Brown, and Clay Confer get into the mix with kills of their own. Valley Forge ended up wrapping up the 2nd set on a ball handling error to take it 25-15. Set 3 should not come as much of a surprise with how it went down as each match so far saw a competitive final set. St. Josephs made us work for this straight set sweep by keeping the scoring tight all the way through. A couple clutch kills by Toby Harris and Tyler Younger after a 22-20 back and forth brawl finally put the set away and our Patriots walked away with another straight set win!
This brings our men's team to an impressive 3-1 to start the season, with their next game coming against Neumann University on February 6th for the FIRST Home game of the season!! Game time is 7 PM!
