Men's Volleyball took on Penn State Schuylkill in a last-minute make-up matchup at Home in the Pit this past Wednesday February 15th. Our Patriots took the game in straight sets, winning 25-5, 25-16, and 25-15.
The Patriots came out strong right out the gate. Going on a 4 point run to start the game thanks to a couple aces by Toby Harris and a kill by Nathan Whisman. After a comeback by Penn State to bring the set to just a 2 point lead, Valley Forge went off to take 14 straight points! Multiple aces by Nathan Whisman helped the cause with the sub in of Chris Brown to get points 19 and 20. After a service error to make the lead 20-5, Valley Forge scored 5 straight to take the set off of three service aces in a row by Paul Brown to get points 23, 24, and 25! Set two saw much of the same, even with pretty much a whole new group coming in for Valley Forge they were able to lock it down. Kills by Ethan Fagan and Aaron Del Valle started the scoring in what was a tight one at the start of the set. With Penn State ahead by 2 in a 6-8 game, Valley Forge took the next 5 of 7 to take the 1 point lead. Then after State tied the game at 11, the Patriots took the next 14 of 19 to close the set behind aces by Ethan Fagan and Will Schmidheinl! Toby Harris was brought back in to start set three and had 3 aces in a row to take the early 4-0 lead. A comeback by State, thanks to a couple misplays, brought a tie game at 4 apiece. A kill by Chris Brown gave Valley Forge the lead before another comeback brought a 7-9 deficit. A huge kill by Ethan Fagan brought the lead back at 10-9 before a 3 point streak by State brought another 2 point deficit. Then, Valley Forge did what they had done all day, went on a massive run! 10 points straight that consisted of multiple aces by Ethan Fagan and a couple kills by Chris Brown provided the backbone of the run. Taking a 20-12 lead in the process, Valley Forge went on to take 5 of the next 8 to close out the set and take the sweep of Penn State!

Valley Forge's next game will be against Immaculata University on the Road on Friday February 23rd. Game time is 7 PM!
