Aston, PA – The University of Valley Forge Men's Volleyball team traveled a short distance to Aston, PA for a non-conference match up with the Knights of Neumann University. Despite an even third set, the Patriots fell to Knights 3-0 (25-7, 25-15, 25-20). With the loss, Valley Forge moves to 0-2 on the season.
The Patriots poised together 16 kills, 14 assists, 5 service aces, 6 blocks, and 48 total digs. Sophomore
Garrett Olsen led the team with 7 kills. Sophomore
David Fletcher tallied a team-high 3 aces, and 10 assists. Senior
James Boyce, and sophomore
Paul Brown secured 3 blocks each. Junior
Ryan Deschaine had a notable defensive game with a team-high 10 digs.
Neumann scored 10 of the first 12 points of the set to demand momentum. The Knights held on, earning the final 11 points to take the 25-7 win.
The Knights took a quick 5-0 lead to begin the second set. Valley Forge capitalized on two
Garrett Olsen kills, a
Ryan Deschaine service ace, and three Neumann errors to tie the set 6-6-. After going on a 4-0 run, the Knights took steady control to close out the set 25-15.
In the final frame, the Patriots found an offensive push, scoring a season-high 20 points. Valley Forge controlled the first half of the set, holding a 13-10 lead. However, the Knights fought back with a 7-0 run to hold a 17-13 lead over the Patriots. Both teams battled it out, trading points, but it wasn't enough for the Patriots as the Knights claimed the 25-20 win.
Valley Forge will prepare for a conference match-up with Wilson College on Tuesday, March 30
th at 7 p.m.
