Phoenixville, PA – The University of Valley Forge Men's Basketball team fell to the Mighty Macs of Immaculata University, 95-77 on Tuesday afternoon.
Matthew Altamirano led the way with 27 points, followed by
Steven Eng with 20 points as he went 6-11 from three-point land.
Owen Bradford was a tank in the paint with 16 points, his fourth consecutive double-digit contest.
"As usual, we got off to a great start at home, but we weren't able to sustain it," head coach
DJ Damazo added. "As far as we've come this season, I have to continue to remind myself that we are still an extremely young team that is made up of all freshmen, sophomores, and one junior. We are still learning and trying to figure things out, but I firmly believe most of our mistakes will be fixed with getting older and more mature."
The Patriots came out hot, posting a 13-point advantage for a 24-11 score over the Mighty Macs. Immaculata began to find their groove, allowing the Mighty Macs to the take the lead after being tied at 31 apiece. Immaculata entered the locker room with a 10-point benefit after a 11-1 run.
The Patriots struggled to find any sort of rhythm in the second stanza. The Mighty Macs shot a hot 62.9% from the field (22-35), consistently navigating their way through the Valley Forge defense. Immaculata gathered their largest lead of the game at 26 points with 2:16 remaining. The Patriots were able to cut the lead to 14 points at 2:03, but the Mighty Macs closed the contest with a 4-0 run, finalizing the score, 95-77.
The Mighty Macs gathered 22 assists, 27 points off of turnovers, and 62 point in the paint.
As a unit, the Patriots went 27-64 from the field (42.2%), 10-27 from behind the arc (37%), and 13-18 from the free-throw line (72.2%).
Valley Forge will back in action this weekend as they face the conference foe, Pratt Institute on Saturday, February 8
th at 12 p.m.
