Phoenixville, PA – In a solid performance, three Patriots recorded a double-double in the win over Penn State Brandywine on Tuesday evening, their ninth game scoring triple-digits. With this win, the Patriots move to 11-9 on the season.
Matthew Altamirano led the Patriots in scoring with a 30 piece, as well as dishing out a career-high 10 assists.
Derian Bradford tied his career-high with 25 points, while collecting 10 rebounds.
Aaron Hill collected 19 points and 13 boards, followed by
Bennie Howard Jr. with 11 points.
Owen Bradford and
Rafael Smith tallied together 20 points as they had 10 points each.
"After an exhausting road trip in New York City and finding out we qualified for the ACAA playoffs, I was worried our young team would have a letdown," head coach
DJ Damazo shared. "Instead, we played our most complete game of the year. The things that stands out the most is the way we shared the ball. We had 27 assists and the overall ball movement was very good. To have three players record double-doubles in the same game is something I have not seen on this level. All in all, I am very proud of our guys. We have to finish these last two weeks strong so we are playing our best basketball going into the tournament."
With the contest in full swing, the Patriots fought for a comfortable lead. After a few key possessions led by
Matthew Altamirano and
Derian Bradford, the Patriots held a 7-point benefit. Valley Forge quickly increased their lead after a 10-3 run. Trailing by 19-points, the Lions attempted to inch their way in but ran out of time as the Patriots entered the locker room leading 53-40.
Holding a 13-point advantage, Valley Forge pushed to carry a game-high 27-point lead with 12:20 remaining. The Patriots kept the momentum, shooting 62.2% from the field (23-37) to close the contest with a 17-point victory over the Lions.
In a total team effort, the Patriots tied their season-high record with 27 assists. Although Valley Forge outrebounded Brandywine by a short 6 boards, the Patriots secured an impressive 70 points in the paint.
As a unit, Valley Forge shot 47-84 from the field (56%), 8-29 from three-point land (27.6%), and 8-16 from the stripe (50%).
Valley Forge is set to face the Golden Wolves of Alvernia University on Thursday, February 20
th at 7 p.m.
