Phoenixville, PA – The University of Valley Forge Men's Basketball team bounced back from a loss at St. Elizabeth as they posted a triple-digit final over the Crusaders of Chirstendom College. With the 105-80 win, the Patriots shift to 8-5 on the season, respectively.
The Patriots were led by sophomore
Steven Eng, and freshman
Matthew Altamirano who both dished out 17 points.
Aaron Hill,
Derian Bradford, and
Bennie Howard Jr. combined for 36 points as they each tallied 12 points in the contest.
"I thought we were clicking in a lot of way – both offensively and defensively," head coach
DJ Damazo stated. "It was a good response after a tough loss on Wednesday. We have a big week next week and it's good to have some momentum going into it."
Valley Forge claimed a quick double-digit lead within the first five minutes of play. The Patriots did not look back as they extended their lead with a 16-0 run to create a 25-point advantage at the half.
The Patriots opened up the second-half with the same intensity, challenging the Crusader defense by creating a 35-point benefit, which would be their largest lead of the evening. Although Christendom powered through for a 10-0 run with 5:26 remaining, Valley Forge picked things back up with an
Alex Wilkins three-ball. The Patriots finished the matchup with a
Andres Rubio layup and trey ball to secure their eighth win of the season.
In addition to securing 37 points off of turnovers, Valley Forge also collected a season-high 27 assists, and 23 steals.
With a weather advisory postponing the Alvernia contest, the Patriots will face the Highlanders of Cairn University at home on Wednesday, January 22
nd at 7 p.m.
