Phoenixville, PA - The University of Valley Forge Men's Soccer (5-5) faced an upset against the Crusaders of Christendom College (3-4) who lead the game in a 3-1 win on Saturday afternoon at home.
The first-half of the game started off as an even matchup with 10 shots by Christendom and 18 shots by Valley Forge with no success from either side. With less than ten seconds left on the clock,
Mathurin Allawai was able to connect on a free kick, giving the Patriots a 1-0 lead.
With the second-half underway, the Patriots struggled with finding solid rhythm on the field allowing a Christendom strike in the 53
rd minute, tying the game 1-1. As both teams attempted to generate offense, the Crusaders took advantage of the Patriots frustration scoring another goal in the 61
st minute. Despite exceptional effort from sophomore defender
Nicholas Turick, Christendom continued to dominate the field with a third and final goal in the 70
th minute. As Valley Forge fought back with five shot attempts, they were not able to sink any for a 3-1 score in favor of Christendom.
"We started off the game playing well," first-year head coach
John Badidis shared. "Unfortunately we lost focus and did not stick to the game plan in the second-half and gave Christendom the game."
Valley Forge had a 32-24 benefit on shots, and a 7-2 on corners.
The Patriots will continue their season in Lancaster, PA in a scrimmage against Lancaster Bible College on Wednesday, October 2
nd at 7:00 p.m.
