Patriots Take Double Header Over PSU Worthington-Scranton

Blue Bell, PA. – The University of Valley Forge Men's Baseball team had their season opener Saturday against Penn State-Worthington Scranton in a Double Header taking both games, respectively 20-0 and 21-12.

Game 1

Game one was an amazing game for the Patriots keeping the Nittany Lions at zero runs. This was in large part due to the fantastic pitching by Jeffery Espinal, who only allowed 2 hits in four innings and racked up 8 strikeouts. The Patriots also had a good game hitting as well scoring a total of 20 runs, lead by Jagger Blough and Cody Rak who each hit at 100%. The duo combined for 7 of the runs and 6 of the RBIs in a stellar home opening performance on a windy day. The win goes to Jeffery Espinal for the Patriots and the loss goes to Vinny Vaccaro for the Nittany Lions.

Game 2

The second game came with some trouble as the Lions opened up well and scored well totaling 12 runs to the Patriots 5 at the top of the 5th. However this was short lived, the Patriots did not stop fighting and rallied back with a wild inning bringing in 16 runs in the bottom of th 5th. This rally was led by James Jackson, Jagger Blough, and Cody Rak who each had at least 2 hits, 2 runs, and 2 RBIs. The team took advantage of spotty pitching and turned the game around despite going down early in the game.
Serval pitching changes from the lions were to no avail, the Patriots hung in strong and pulled out with a 21-12 victory. The game only went 6 innings and was called, the win goes to Zachary Nunnery, the loss goes to Zach Blockberger.
