Phoenixville, PA – For the first time since joining, the Patriots made an appearance in the ACAA Women's Volleyball Tournament. With the privilege of hosting the event, Valley Forge welcomed UC Santa Cruz, Pratt Institute, and Mount Mary to Phoenixville. On Saturday afternoon, the Patriots faced the Banana Slugs on UC Santa Cruz, ultimately falling in consecutive sets (25-5, 25-5, 25-10).
The Banana Slugs proved to be too much for the Patriots as they collected a .418 clip, only committing five errors off of 67 total attempts with 33 match kills. Santa Cruz dominated at the service line, gathering a remarkable 18 aces within three frames.
With facing the #1 seed, the Patriots attempted to keep their spirits high. However, the Slugs only allowed the Patriots to tally a -.105 attacking percentage. Valley Forge collected a total of six kills, with four from
Kaitlyn Hess. Defensively, the team was led by Hess and
Melanie-Ann Torres who collected 10 digs each.
With an impressive postseason play, Hess earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team to cap off her successful career.
As a team, Valley Forge finished the 2019 campaign with a 7-21 overall record.
