Phoenixville, PA – The University of Valley Forge Women's Basketball team welcomed the Highlanders of Cairn University to UVF on Thursday evening. The Patriots picked up their fourth win in a row by taking down Cairn by a score of 64-61.
Valley Forge led by 1 with 1:30 left in the first quarter.
Carlee Conrad found an open
Amaya Brown. Brown tickled the twine to give UVF a 3-point lead (10-7) after 1 period of play.
Three minutes into the 2nd quarter, UVF started to settle in and play well. The Patriots led 17-14 when they were able to put a little distance between themselves and their opponent.
Shania Walker hit a jumper then followed it up with a steal on the defensive end. Walker's steal led to a bucket from
Amaya Brown. Moments later,
Cayleen Conrad would nail a three to give the Patriots a 10-point lead. That was the difference as both team headed into the intermission. Valley Forge led 30-20.
The Patriots continued to hold a double digit lead throughout most of the 3rd quarter. Cairn was able to use a 7-0 run to bring the UVF lead to 4. With under a minute to play in the period,
Kaitlyn Hess found
Alea Flowers wide open. Flowers received the pass and knocked down a long three to give UVF a 49-42 lead after three quarters of play.
The 4th quarter did not start the way the Patriots had hoped. Cairn opened the 4th quarter on a 9-0 run and take a 51-49 lead.
Jhanel Brown was held in check for most of the game. That was until the 7:28 mark in the 4th. Brown erupted with 9 points over the next 7 minutes. That coupled with a monster block and timely shooting from
Carlee Conrad and
Lindsay LeSueur gave the Patriots a 3-point lead with 1:37 remaining. Cairn was able to add a layup but a last second Highlander three was off the mark as Valley Forge took down Cairn by a final score of 64-61.
