Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Patriots Win Streak Hits Four; Valley Forge Wins Over Cairn

Phoenixville, PA – The University of Valley Forge Women's Basketball team welcomed the Highlanders of Cairn University to UVF on Thursday evening.  The Patriots picked up their fourth win in a row by taking down Cairn by a score of 64-61.

Valley Forge led by 1 with 1:30 left in the first quarter.  Carlee Conrad found an open Amaya Brown.  Brown tickled the twine to give UVF a 3-point lead (10-7) after 1 period of play.

Three minutes into the 2nd quarter, UVF started to settle in and play well.  The Patriots led 17-14 when they were able to put a little distance between themselves and their opponent.  Shania Walker hit a jumper then followed it up with a steal on the defensive end.  Walker's steal led to a bucket from Amaya Brown.  Moments later, Cayleen Conrad would nail a three to give the Patriots a 10-point lead.  That was the difference as both team headed into the intermission.  Valley Forge led 30-20.

The Patriots continued to hold a double digit lead throughout most of the 3rd quarter.  Cairn was able to use a 7-0 run to bring the UVF lead to 4.  With under a minute to play in the period, Kaitlyn Hess found Alea Flowers wide open.  Flowers received the pass and knocked down a long three to give UVF a 49-42 lead after three quarters of play.

The 4th quarter did not start the way the Patriots had hoped.  Cairn opened the 4th quarter on a 9-0 run and take a 51-49 lead.  Jhanel Brown was held in check for most of the game. That was until the 7:28 mark in the 4th. Brown erupted with 9 points over the next 7 minutes.  That coupled with a monster block and timely shooting from Carlee Conrad and Lindsay LeSueur gave the Patriots a 3-point lead with 1:37 remaining.  Cairn was able to add a layup but a last second Highlander three was off the mark as Valley Forge took down Cairn by a final score of 64-61.
