Phoenixville, PA – The University of Valley Forge Women's Volleyball team welcomed The Pioneers of Alfred State University and the Ravens of Rosemont College to UVF on Saturday afternoon for a tri-match. The Patriots went on to split the tri-match by falling to Alfred State but then picking up a win against Rosemont.

Megan Freed led the Patriots with 5 kills. Junior setter
Kaitlyn Hess led the team with 11 assists. Senior
Lindsay LeSueur had 3 blocks during the contest.
Valley Forge started off well in the opening moments of the first set. The Patriots reeled off a 5-0 run thanks in part to receiving kills from
Mariah Straker and
Megan Freed. UVF led 6-2. The Pioneers seemed to settle in. Moments later, ASU used an 11-3 run to come back and take the lead 13-9. From that point the Pioneers took control of the set and went on to win by a score of 25-17.
Midway through the second set, UVF trailed 16-12. Valley Forge got some help from the Pioneers. Thanks to 4 Alfred State errors, the Patriots were able to climb back into the set. However, it wouldn't be enough as ASU went on to win 25-19.
Again, midway through the third set, the Patriots needed to get something going. Down by 4, Valley Forge got three big kills from
Hannah Hawkryluk,
Lindsay LeSueur and
Megan Freed. UVF was able to tie the score at 17. Moments later, the Patriots took the lead because of two Pioneers attack errors. The 19-18 lead was erased and Alfred State finish the third and final set on a 7-1 run to win by a score of 25-20.
UVF vs. Rosemont College
Offensively, the Patriots were led by
Kaitlyn Hess. Hess had 24 assists against the Ravens. Kaitlyn also recorded her 1,000th assist in the opening moments of the first set. UVF's
Lindsay LeSueur had 10 kills and
Megan Freed had 26 digs.
The first set was tight the entire way through. Valley Forge led 22-18. The Patriots closed out the set on a 7-0 run that included kills from
Lindsay LeSueur,
Hannah Hawkryluk, and
Megan Freed.
Kaitlyn Hess continues to torture teams with her serving. Hess recorded 2 of her 5 service aces in the 7-0 run. The Patriots won set #1 25-22.
The second set went down to the wire as well. Following an attack error that gave the Patriots a slim 1-point lead (23-22),
Lindsay LeSueur received a beautiful set from
Kaitlyn Hess. LeSueur crushed the kill to give UVF a big 2-point lead at 24-22. Thanks to a Raven attack error, The Patriots were able to close out the set by a final score of 25-23.
Valley Forge took control of the third set early. Kills by
Giana Brown,
Mariah Straker,
Megan Freed and a service ace from
Lindsay LeSueur led to a 10-2 run that gave UVF a 12-5 lead. The Patriots continued to build the lead and took the 3rd and final set 25-18.
