Game Recap Women's Softball April 9, 2018
Phoenixville, PA- The University of Valley Forge women's softball team (4-12) took on the Brooklyn College Bulldogs (1-13) on Monday night, taking both games of a double header.
Game 1- Patriots 13, Bulldogs 11
Game Summary- The Patriots and Bulldogs stayed close in score. Each inning, after the opposing team would score, they would come right back to tie the game or shorten the lead. The Bulldogs pulled ahead with four runs in the fourth inning, and then three more in the fifth to take an 11-8 lead. A combination of good hitting, but mostly good pitch selection, gave the Bulldogs the late game lead. However, the Patriots came storming back.
Megan Freed, Jordyn Clarke, and Carlee Conrad knocked in runs, and
Lindsay LeSueur ripped a two-run single to seal the win. LeSueur also won the game on the mound for the Patriots, and she had them going into game two on a high note.
Game 2- Patriots 12, Bulldogs 4
Game Summary- Game 2 started out as a close pitchers' duel. Patriots' LeSeur and Bulldogs' Xharo gave up four runs before the fourth inning, but they seemed like they were in control. The Patriots broke the game open in the bottom half of the fourth. LeSueur,
Bailey Mayforth, and Danielle Handzel singled and knocked in two runs, giving the Patriots a much-needed extended lead. LeSueur gave herself some insurance for when she went back out on to the mound. Conrad and
Kaitlyn Hess scored two more runs for the Patriots in the bottom half of the fifth inning allowing the Patriots to walk out with two solid wins.
What's next- The Patriots are home on Wednesday to take on Clarks Summit University, while Brooklyn is back home to take on Yeshiva University on Tuesday.
