Patriots Stumble Against the Cougars

MYRTLE BEACH, SC – The University of Valley Forge Patriots Men's Baseball team (1-9) continued their Ripken Experience facing the Chatham University Cougars (4-3).

Game 1: Cougars 12, Patriots 1
Game Summary – The Patriots were unable to get the bats going against the Cougars defense. The Cougars were able to capitalize on their hits to drive in runs every inning but the fourth. The Patriots lone score came thanks to Marcus Fultz who drove in Jeffery Espinal in the seventh inning on a fielder's choice. Espinal led the Patriots' batting going 2 for 3 at the plate with one run scored.

Game 2: Cougars 9, Patriots 3
Game Summary – The Patriots were not able to get the bats going early as the Cougars mounted a 5 run lead heading into the third inning. James Jackson earned a base from a fielder's choice and advanced to second from the Cougars confusion. Bryan Reyes doubled to left center, advancing to third from an error in center field. Jackson scored on the play for the Patriots. Cody Rak followed with a shot to center driving in Reyes. The inning was cut short due to a Cougars 4-6-3 double play. The Cougars answered in the top of the third driving in three runs to take an 8-2 lead. Waldo Odens Jr. started the top of the fourth with a single to left field. Odens Jr. worked his way around the rest of the bases from a rip down the right field line from Zach Nunnery. The Cougars closed the inning out allowing only one run for the Patriots and sealed the game with good defense through the final two innings. The Patriots totaled a combined 10 hits, Odens Jr. having his best performance at the plate batting 3 for 3 with a run scored. Reyes also included two hits and a RBI.
