Patriots Cruise By Blue Angels

New Rochelle, NY – The University of Valley Forge Women's Basketball team defeated The College of New Rochelle Blue Angels in a convincing 77-49 win on Saturday afternoon. 

Offensively the Patriots (8-7) were led by Junior Jhanel Brown with 26 points and 16 rebounds.  Sophomore Natalie Cortes added 21 points and 10 rebounds and Senior Bailey Mayforth had 11 points and 10 rebounds.  Three Patriots recorded a double-double during the contest. 

The Blue Angels (7-11) were led on offense by Dar'Neisha Brice with 17 points.  Ashley Martin added 12 points and 11 rebounds for New Rochelle.   
 
Jhanel Brown and Natalie Cortes were responsible for the Patriots first 10 points of the first half.  The Patriots defense held CNR scoreless until the 5:06 mark in the first quarter.  The Patriots jumped out to a 21-9 lead at the end of the first quarter. 

UVF continued its dominance as the 2nd quarter began.  Jhanel Brown converted on a layup just 3 seconds into the quarter and followed by a three from Amaya Brown, the Patriots pushed their lead to 17.  The Patriots would add to their lead by using an 8-0 run that gave UVF their biggest lead of the game 43-18.  Valley Forge entered the half with a commanding 46-24 lead. 

After CRN cut the Patriots lead to 15, UVF went on a 9-0 run to push their lead back to 24 with 3:44 left in the period.  After back to back layups in the final 30 seconds of the quarter, the Patriots led 62-37 after 3 periods of play. 

Jhanel Brown made an early layup and followed by a triple from Bailey Mayforth, the Patriots increased their lead to the largest of the game (30).  It was all Patriots on Saturday afternoon and Valley Forge went on to win 77-49 and climb above the .500 for the first time this season 8-7. 
 
Up Next
The Patriots will return to the court on Monday, January 5th when they travel to Langhorne, PA to take on longtime rival Cairn University.  Game time is set for 6:00 pm.
