Phoenixville, PA – The Patriots Women's Basketball team played host to the Lions of Bryn Athyn College on Saturday afternoon.  Valley Forge won big by a final score of 85-55.

Offensively the Patriots had four players score in double figure.  Freshmen Cayleen Conrad (Pine Grove, PA) had 23 points and 6 rebounds.  Junior Carlee Conrad (Pine Grove, PA) added 16 points and 7 assists while Amaya Brown also had 16 points for Valley Forge.  Jhanel Brown recorded 11 points and 9 rebounds for the Patriots.

The Patriots wreaked havoc on defense all afternoon.  UVF had 22 steals and caused 31 turnovers against the Lions.  Valley Forge did a great job of sharing the basketball.  All 9 players on the roster recorded at least one basket as the Patriots had 20 assists throughout the contest.

The only time Valley Forge trailed in the game was in the beginning of the first quarter when Bryn Athyn opened the scoring.  After trailing 2-0, the Patriots went on a 17-5 run to take a commanding first quarter lead.  Valley Forge continued increase its lead throughout the first quarter.  Cayleen Conrad scored 10 of her 23 points in the opening frame to help give the Patriots a 27-12 lead after the first period.

UVF played suffocating defense.  In the second quarter alone, the Patriots caused 10 turnovers that led to 7 points.  Valley Forge used an 8-0 run that was started with a steal from Alea Flowers.  Flowers jumped in front of an intended pass, stole the ball and raced to the other end for an easy layup.  After Cayleen Conrad knocked down one of her three treys on the afternoon and Amaya Brown hit a jumper from just inside the 3-point line, the Patriots built a 17 point lead with 4 minutes remaining until halftime.  In the closing minute of the half, UVF went on a small 5-0 run to make the score 48-22 at intermission.

Valley Forge had another big quarter.  The Patriots opened the third quarter with an 11-2 run that consisted of all layups.  Valley Forge was able to get into the lane with ease all afternoon.  UVF led by as many as 37 points with 1:18 left in the period.  After a Lion three pointer, the Patriots led 75-41 heading into the fourth and final period.  Valley Forge would go on to cruise to an 85-55 win to close out the fall semester.

The Patriots will return to court after Winter Break when they take on Misericordia University in Dallas, PA on January 5th, 2019.
