Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Valley Forge Loses on the Road at Medgar Evers

Brooklyn, NY – The Patriots Men's Basketball Team traveled to Brooklyn, NY for a game against the Cougars of Medgar Evers College on Wednesday evening.  After a strong first half, the Patriots were unable to keep pace with the hot shooting Cougars and would lose by a final score of 95-66.

Three Patriots scored in double figures throughout the contest.  Offensively, UVF was led by Samuel Smith with 18 points.  Sean Word grabbed his first double-double of the year with 12 points and 16 rebounds.  Cody Collins added 10 points for Valley Forge.

Down 11-6 in the early stages of the first half, Cody Collins was able to muscle in a layup while being fouled.  Collins converted on the free throw to bring the score to 11-9.  Collins was able to erase the Cougar lead when he made his second consecutive layup to tie the game at 11 with 15 minutes to play in the half.  That was the theme of the first half.  The Cougars tried to build a lead, but Valley Forge always seemed to have an answer.  With 29 seconds remaining in the half, Samuel Smith grabbed a rebound and put the ball up and in to make the score 40-38 as time expired.

The second half would be a different story.  The Cougars came out and were aggressive.  This time, Medgar Evers was able to build a big lead with hot shooting from the outside.  MEC went 5-12 from behind the arc and shot 57% from the field.  The Patriots fell by a final score of 95-66.
