Phoenixville, PA – The University of Valley Forge Volleyball team played host to the Griffins of Gwynedd Mercy University on Friday evening. UVF fell to the Griffins in straight sets 25-14, 25-13 and 25-14.
Defensively, the Patriots were led by Senior
Megan Freed,
Kaitlyn Hess, and
Lindsay LeSueur. All three recorded double digits in digs throughout the contest.
Offensively, Freed (6) and Hess (5) led the team in kills.
Kaitlyn Hess recorded 7 assists on the evening.
The Patriots ran into a hot hitting Gwynedd Mercy Team. The Griffins had 12 kills in the first set. After the Patriots were able to tie the game at 8, Gwynedd Mercy started to pull away. The Griffins used a 14-3 run to take control of set #1 and win by a final score of 25-14.
Valley Forge was able to go on a quick 4-1 scoring run to bring the score to 15-11 midway through set #2. Unfortunately for UVF, Gwynedd Mercy reeled off 7 straight points to take a commanding 22-11 lead. The Griffins took the second set by a score of 25-13.
The Patriots were just unable to get any kind of offense generated against a tough opponent. The visitors went on a 16-3 run to take control of the set. The Griffins won set #3 25-14.
The Women's Volleyball Team will celebrate their three seniors On Monday, October 22nd when Valley Forge faces off against Penn State Brandywine. First serve is set for 7:00 PM.
