Phoenixville, PA – The University of Valley Forge Women's Basketball team welcomed the Bruins of Bob Jones University to UVF on Saturday afternoon. After a tightly contested first half, the Patriots used a big second half to pull away and beat Bob Jones by a score of 61-47.
Both teams matched each other shot for shot throughout the first three quarters of play. At the end of the third quarter and the Bruins leading by four with time running out, Amaya Brown drove to the basket and drilled a shot at the buzzer to bring the Patriots within 2 at 36-34 heading into the 4
th and final quarter.
The Patriots rocketed out of the gate to begin the fourth quarter. Natalie Cortes drove to the baseline, stopped and nailed the baseline jumper to tie the game at 36. That was just the beginning of a massive 19-2 run. While the weather outside failed to reach 20 degrees,
Bailey Mayforth was just heating up inside the gym on Saturday afternoon. During the Valley Forge run Mayforth knocked down two trey's and a jumper on her way to leading all scorers with 18 points on the afternoon. UVF opened up a 17 point lead.
The Bruins tried to claw their way back into the game by going on a 7-0 run. The run and momentum was stopped by another
Bailey Mayforth triple. Mayforth's dagger with just under two minutes left in the game put the game out of reach and gave the Patriots their 4
th win on the season. UVF improves to 4-5 on the year.
A Look at the Numbers
Offensively the Patriots were led by Senior
Bailey Mayforth. Mayforth led all scorers with 18 point while also dishing out 4 assists. Even though
Jhanel Brown was playing in foul trouble for most the game she still managed to make a big impact. Brown had 12 points along with 8 rebounds. Bob Jones was led by Sarah Thomsen with 15 points.
