Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Winning Streak Hits Four

Phoenixville, PA - The University of Valley Forge Women's Volleyball team continued their 2017 season by hosting the Nittany Lions of Penn State Schuylkill. The Patriots blanked the Lions with a three set sweep.

Game 1 
After a back and forth opening few points, Valley Forge began to edge out Penn State, starting from the tight 6-7 mark and moving forward. A kill by Lindsay LeSeur began the Patriot string of success, followed by 5 straight serves from Megan Bard. After some additional back and forth, Megan Freed took control, serving 8 straight points to close out the first set at 25-12.

Game 2
Set 2 resembled set 1 in its initial stages, with both teams attempting to gain a viable edge, tying once at 4-4 within the first 8 points, and Valley Forge obtaining a slight lead at 6-5 in the first 11 points. The game began to break open with Chanda Carson serving for four straight points to put the Patriots ahead at 10-5. Later on, Kaitlyn Hess would go on to distance the Patriots 19-11 with three straight service aces. Megan Bard would go on to snuff out the Nittany Lion's set 2 hopes with a kill and 4 straight services, with three aces.

Game 3
The third set belonged solely to the Patriots. With a final tally of 25-10, Valley Forge was led by the strong serving efforts of Kaitlyn Hess, Chanda Carson, and Lindsay LeSeur with runs of 3, 4, and 9 points, respectively. UVF was not to be denied a momentous 4-0 start, marching to victory behind the 3 kills from Megan Bard and the game ending kill by Hope Salata.

A look at the Numbers
The Patriots totaled 16 service aces on the evening.  Freed accounted for 5, while Kaitlyn Hess had 6, and Megan Bard also tallied 5 for UVF.  Bard also led UVF in kills with 7, joined by Freed and Hannah Carter with with 6 and 2, respectively.  The Patriots continue their 2017 season off with a 4-0 record.

After recording 19 digs tonight, Senior Brittany Eberly is now 22 digs away from becoming the all-time dig leader in UVF history. 

Up Next
The Women's Volleyball team will be back on Saturday, September 9th, as they travel to Bryn Mawr, PA.  They will take on Bryn Mawr College and Cedar Crest College in a tri-match. The first game is scheduled to start at 11:00 am.
