Patriots Split with Knights

Phoenixville, PA – The University of Valley Forge Baseball team played host to the Knights of Central Penn College on Sunday afternoon. The Patriots won game 1 by a score of 9-8 and lost game 2 by a score of 11-4.

Game 1
UVF stayed patient at the plate in the first inning. The Patriots drew 5 walks and with timely hitting from Jacob Johnson, James Jackson and Wesley Hetrick Valley Forge scored 7 runs in the bottom of the 1st inning.  The Patriots picked up their 8th run on an RBI single from Cody Rak in the bottom of the 4th inning to give them an 8-0 lead.  Central Penn battled back and scored 3 in the 5th and 4 in the 6th

The Patriots led 8-7 going into the bottom of the 6th inning.  UVF needed an insurance run late in the game.  James Jackson led off the inning with a single.  Wesley Hetrick layed down a perfect bunt to advance Jackson to second. Cody Rak then singled and moved James Jackson to third.  Jeffrey Espinal stepped in the batter's box and got a pitch he could elevate.  Espinal flied out to left field that was just deep enough to score Jackson on the sac fly.  That run proved to be the winning run.

Central Penn threatened in the top of the 7th and scored a run to make it 9-8 in favor of UVF.  Cody Rak shut the door for his first save of the year.  The Patriots won game 1 by a final score of 9-8.
