Patriots Season Ends With A Loss

Phoenixville, PA – The University of Valley Forge Baseball team completed their 2017 season by hosting the Defenders of Clarks Summit University (CSU).  The Patriots dropped the first game by a score of 7-4.  The second game of the double header was canceled because of rain.

Game 1
This would be the fifth time the two have met this season.  With the season series tied at two games apiece, both teams wanted the win to claim the season series.

The Defenders jumped on the Patriots early.  Clarks Summit scored 3 runs on 4 hits in the opening inning.  Before the Patriots came to bat, they were already down 3-0.  UVF cut into the Defender lead in the bottom of the first inning.  After Wesley Hetrick singled and Cody Rak walked, Jeffery Espinal then doubled down the right field line to score Hetrick.  The Defenders led 3-1.

CSU added a run in the second inning but the Patriots were able to answer with 2 runs of their own in the bottom of the second inning.  Jacob Johnson singled up the middle and then stole second.  Johnson then advanced to third on a wild throw.  Jacob Johnson would cross the plate thanks to a CSU error.  Wesley Hetrick picked up an RBI with a single to center that scored James Jackson.  UVF trailed Clarks Summit by a score of 4-3.

The Patriots trailed 5-4 heading into the top of the seventh inning.  The Defenders got two big runs with two outs.  Clarks Summit took game 1 by a final score of 7-4.

Coach Brian Algeo said "I am extremely proud of how this team came together throughout the year.  We have grown and battled in each and every game.  The future is very bright for Patriots Baseball."

A Look at the Numbers
