Washington, DC - The University of Valley Forge Men's Baseball team traveled to Washington, DC to play the Bison of Gallaudet University on Sunday afternoon. The Patriots dropped both games of the double-header by scores of 13-5 and 16-4.
Game 1
The Bison jumped got on the scoreboard in the first inning scoring 4 runs. Gallaudet added their 5th run in the bottom of the 3rd. UVF started to get something going in the top half of the 5th inning. With 2 outs,
Jeffery Espinal,
Ricky Romero Jr. and
Darryl Ivester each singled to load the bases.
James Jackson then singled to score Espinal. On the next pitch, the ball trickled away from the Bison catcher which enabled Romero to score.
Jacob Johnson then singled to score Ivester. The Patriots scored 3 runs with two outs to cut into the Bison lead. Unfortunately for the Patriots that was as close as they would come. Gallaudet scored 8 runs on 7 hits in the bottom of the 5th to increase their lead. UVF scored two more runs in the top of the 6th inning but it wasn't enough. The Patriots went on to lose game 1 by a final score of 13-5.
Game 2
The Patriots got off to a strong start in the first inning. UVF scored 4 runs off of singles from
Landyn Traffas,
Jeffery Espinal and a two run double from
Marcus Fultz. Gallaudet was able to chip away at the Patriot lead and tie the game in the bottom of the 5th. The Patriots held the lead and were in control for the better part of the game. The Bison were able to pull away by scoring 12 runs in the bottom of the 6th and win by a final score of 16-4.
