Patriots Finish Regular Season With A Blowout Win

Phoenixville, PA - The University of Valley Forge Men's Basketball Team played host to the Builders of Newport News Apprentice on Saturday afternoon. The Patriots won by a final score of 85-68.

With the game tied 12-12 at the 12:22 mark in the first half, UVF's Alex Sanchez hit a 3-pointer to give the Patriots a 3 point lead.  Sanchez's three sparked a 13-6 run that gave the Patriots a 7 point lead with just under 9 minutes remaining in the half.  After the Builders cut the Valley Forge lead to 5, Thorne McIntosh found an open Austin Lobo.  Lobo knocked down the three to give the Patriots an 8 point lead.  On UVF's next possession, McIntosh again found Austin Lobo.  Lobo knocked down his 2nd three on back to back Patriot possession's to give UVF an 11 point lead.  After an Alex Sanchez layup and a pair of Austin Lobo free throws, UVF held a 15 point lead.  That was all a part of a 10-0 run.  The Patriots went into halftime with a 41-28 advantage. 

In the beginning moments of the 2nd half, the Builder's brought the Patriots lead down to 9.  From that point on, it was all Valley Forge.  The Patriots went on a 17-3 run to take complete control of the game.  The scoring barrage pushed the UVF lead to 24 at the halfway mark in the 2nd half.  The Builders closed the game on a 7-0 run, but it wasn't enough as UVF secured its 17th win of the year.

A Look at the Numbers
The Patriots took control of the game by controlling the paint.  The Patriots scored 34 points in the paint compared to just 8 for Newport News Apprentice.  Four Patriots scored in double figures.  Alex Sanchez lead all scorers with 19 points.  Austin Lobo scored 17 points along with grabbing 9 rebounds.  Anthony Durham-Pennington has been a very important player coming off the bench for the Patriots.  Durham-Pennington scored 17 points and also grabbed 9 rebounds.  Devin Williams added 13 points and 5 assists for UVF.  The Patriots ended the regular season with a 17-7 record.  The men head into the Mideast Regional Tournament as the #1 seed as they look to make their 11th trip to the NCCAA National Tournament.

The Patriots will play the winner of #4 Boyce College or #5 Johnson University (TN) on Friday, February 24th.  Game time is set for 4:00 PM.
