Patriots Drop Two Over the Weekend

Beaver Falls, PA - The University of Valley Forge Men's Basketball team took to the road to play in the Coaches vs. Cancer tournament at Geneva College.  The Patriots squared off against Geneva on Friday night and Grove City College on Saturday afternoon.  

UVF vs. Geneva College

Offensively, The Patriots were led by Senior, Alex Sanchez (29) and Junior, Sean word (11).  Both Sanchez (11) and Word (12) finished with a double-double.  

Both teams started slow and were unable to find a rhythm early.  UVF missed their first 5 shots from the field before Alex Sanchez nailed a three to bring the Patriots within 1 in the opening minutes of the first half.  With the game tied at 12 at the 11 minute mark, Valley Forge used a 6-0 run to make the score 18-12 with just under 10 minutes to play in the half.  As soon as it looked as though the Patriots would build a comfortable lead heading into halftime.  Geneva, However, had different plans.  The Golden Tornados went on a 10-0 run to retake the lead for good in the first half.  The score at the half was 36-29 in favor of Geneva.  

Down by 10, the Patriots were able to chip away at the Geneva lead.  Emanuel Toms nailed a jumper to tie the game at 45 apiece.  Both teams traded basketball over the course of the next 5 minutes.  With the Patriots down by 1, Alex Sanchez found Cody Collins who drilled a 3 to give UVF the lead.  Collin's trey sparked a 10-0 run that gave Valley Forge a 9 point lead with just under 7 minutes remaining.  The Golden Tornados closed the game out with a 10-2 run to seal the win.  UVF fell on Friday night by a score of 75-68.


UVF vs. Grove City

Grove City shot 56% from the field in the first half that propelled them to a 44-27 lead at halftime.  The Wolverines never allowed the Patriots to get back into the game. As soon as Valley Forge brought lead down to 14, Grove city used a 10-2 run to put the game away for good.  The Patriots lost game 2 of the Coaches vs. Cancer tournament by a score of 90-70.  

Up Next
The Patriots will look for their first win of the season when they welcome Penn State Brandywine to UVF on Sunday, November 26th.  Game time is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
