SUMMERDALE, PA- The Patriots rolled into Summerdale, PA Wednesday night, looking to make it three in a row as they faced the Knights of Central Penn. The Patriots would cruise to an 84-50 victory, securing a winning season as they improve to 13-9 with 2 games left, not counting NCCAA Regionals. This was a huge turn around, after posting a 5-20 record the previous season.
The spotlight of the night would be Junior
Mikala Brinson. Brinson became among just a handful of Patriots to score her 1,000 career point. Going into the night, she was just 27 points shy of 1,000 for her UVF career. Mikala did not disappoint. With 5:01 to go in the 4
th quarter, she would hit a 3-pointer giving her exactly 27 points, and her 1,000 career point.
Mikala scored 378 points her Freshman year. She then scored 317 her Sophomore year. Currently, in her Junior season, she has 305 points, for a career total of 1,000. She is averaging 13.9 ppg this season.
Head Coach
Gretchen LeVan had this to say about Mikala,
"Mikala has been a consistent leader on our team for the past 3 years. To be able to achieve her 1,000 point mark in her Junior year, in her home town, with most of her friends and family in the stand, was a very special moment for her and our team. As a coaching staff, we could not be more proud of her and all her hard work she has put in to accomplish this goal. I am excited to see what records she breaks her last year as a Patriot!"Brinson was not the only one with a good night.
Jhanel Brown would score a double-double with 20 points and 14 rebounds.
Bailey Mayforth would score 13.
Patience Ekuta had a phenomenal defensive performance, limiting the Knights best player to only 8 points.
The Patriots will be back on the court Thursday, February 18th, as they travel to Penn State Schuylkill. Tip-off is 7:00PM.
