PHOENIXVILLE, PA- The USCAA Division II #1 ranked Knights of Berkeley College traveled to the "PIT" Wednesday night, for a match up with the Patriots. The Knights entered the game with an 18 game win streak. They have not lost since November, when they lost their first game of the season to Mercy College.
The Patriots would jump out to a quick 4-0 lead, as
Sean Word would make a lay-up, and then
Jalen Archer would hit a jumper. 4 minutes in,
Devin Williams would extend that lead to 5 when he made a lay-up. The Knights would come back, and take their first lead with 12:52 remaining, as they went up 13-12. The lead would continue to go back and forth, and with 8:40 left in the first,
Devin Williams connected on both free-throws and the Patriots were back on top by 5. At 5:42 the Knights would take the 1 point lead and not give it up for the rest of the half. At the half they would lead 40-37.
A quick foul, and a made 3-pointer started off the 2
nd with a 7 point lead for the Knights. Five minutes in, that lead was extended to 8, but the Patriots did not quit. With 11:46 the crowd was brought to their feet as the Patriots tied the game at 57, when
Devin Williams again connected on a lay-up. It would be Williams again at 10:26 that gave the Patriots the 1 point lead. From that point the Knights would regain the lead at 10:06 and never give it up. With 8:10 left, the Patriots got within 2, but that was as close as they would get. The Knights would go on to win 89-78, winning their 19
th game in a row.
For the Knights, Massiah Merrit led all scorers with 32 points. Stephon Jennings had 16 points and 9 rebounds.
For your Patriots,
Devin Williams had 26 points.
Thorne McIntosh had 18, and DeAndre Gadsden had 17.
The Patriots travel to McDaniel College on Sunday, for their regular season finale, before NCCAA Regionals. Tip-off is set for 3:00PM.
