SCHUYLKILL HAVEN, PA- Devin Williams 26 points was not enough Wednesday night, as the Patriots fell to the Nittany Lions of Penn State Schuylkill 107-104 in overtime.
The Patriots opened up the scoring just 11 seconds in when
Sean Word hit a jumper to score the first points of the game. The scoring would go back and forth, and with 10 minutes to go before the half,
Jerome Staley made 1 of 2 free throws to give the Patriots a 5 point lead. From there, they would continue to extend their lead, with 5:19 on the clock
Cody Collins nailed a 3-pointer to give the Patriots there largest lead, 13. Fouls and a few turnovers would let the Nittany Lions back into the game. With 2:00 minutes to go the lead was down to 7. By the end of the first half the Patriots held on to only a 1 point lead, 45-44.
The second half would go back and forth for the first few minutes, including several lead changes. With 11:19
David Whitaker's jumper gave the Patriots a 6 point lead. At 10:18 DeAndre Gadsden increased that lead to 8. With 7:00 to go, that lead was cut to 2, and at 6:19 a 3-pointer from the Nittany Lions gave them the 1 point lead for yet another lead change. They would extend that lead to as many as 5, and kept that lead with 1:46 to go. With only seconds to go, down 2,
Devin Williams was fouled, and sent to the line shooting 2. Williams would hit both free-throws and send the game into overtime.
In overtime, again the scoring would go back and forth. With :44 seconds left, the Nittany Lions gained a 4 point advantage. With :32 seconds to go, DeAndre Gadsden would hit both from the line to make it a 2 point game. The Patriots would then foul to conserve the clock and try to gain possession. Benioko Harris only made 1 of 2 from the line making it a 3 point game with 18 seconds. The Patriots had a chance to tie and send the game into a second overtime, but failed to convert a 3 to tie the game. They would lose in overtime 107-104.
For the Patriots, they now fall to 4-17 on the season.
Devin Williams had 26 points.
Jalen Archer had 17. From the field they shot 39.3% and 29.6% from beyond the arc.
They will now travel Saturday, February 13
th, to take on Davis College in Johnson City, NY. Game time is set for 7:30PM.
