Phoenixville, PA - The University of Valley Forge Women's Basketball Team played host to the Falcons of Cedar Crest College on Monday evening. The Patriots came out on top by a final score of 77-49.
UVF opened the first quarter on a 12-4 run sparked by a 3 by
Bailey Mayforth. The Patriots were dominate on defense and only allowed 7 first period points. After 1 quarter of play, UVF led by a score of 30-7. In the 2
nd quarter, the Patriots built a commanding 28 point lead with 3 minutes left in the half. They were able to build that lead thanks in part to a jumper by
Jhanel Brown, a 3 by
Mikala Brinson and a dribble drive for a layup by
Morgan Edge. UVF closed out the half with a 24 point lead and the score 45-21.
The second half was more of the same. The Patriots relied heavily on their inside game. UVF scored 11 of their 14 3
rd quarter points from inside the 3-point line. By the time the 3rd period was over UVF still had a commanding lead of 59-32. Entering the 4
th and final quarter, UVF again continued to wreak havoc on the inside and play good defense. The Patriots cruised to their 3
rd win in a row by beating Cedar Crest College by a final score of 77-49. The win improves the Patriots record on the season to 3-2.
A Look at the Numbers
The Patriots put the pressure on the falcon's offense all night. Valley Forge scored 26 points off of turnovers. UVF won the rebound battle with 53 compared to Cedar Crest's 34. The Patriots
Jhanel Brown earned her 4
th double-double of year. She had a double-double in just the first half of play. Brown finished the game with 17 points and 18 rebounds.
Morgan Edge also had a double-double for the Patriots. Edge finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Bailey Mayforth added 11 points and
Lindsay LeSueur had 10.
The Patriots will be back on the court on Friday as they play host to Gallaudet University. Game time is set for 7:00 pm.
