Bryn Athyn, PA - The University of Valley Forge Men's Basketball Team took to the road to play the Lions of Bryn Athyn College on Tuesday evening. The Patriots hot shooting led to a 92-73 win.
The only time the Patriots trailed in the game was in the opening minute. UVF controlled every part of the game from start to finish. Valley Forge's biggest lead was 29 after a fastbreak slam with the right hand by
Austin Lobo at the 1:30 mark in the first half. The Patriots shot a staggering 58% from behind the 3-point line. Six different Patriots hit 3's in the first half on Tuesday evening. UVF wasn't just getting it done on the offensive end but they were shutting down the Bryn Athyn offense. The Patriots forced 13 first half turnovers that led to 22 points. The Lions only managed to score 15 points in just less than 15 minutes of play. The offensive and defensive effort in the first half lead to a Patriot lead of 52-28. In the second half, UVF went to work on the inside. 24 of the Patriots 40 second half points came inside the paint. A complete game on the offensive and defensive ends of the floor enabled UVF to secure its first win on the young season. The Patriots won by a final score of 92-73.
Alex Sanchez lead the Patriots in scoring once again with 21 points. The Junior from Orlando, Florida is averaging 19 points a game through the first three games of the year.
Austin Lobo added 16 and
Devin Williams had 11.
Head Coach Jon Mack said: "I thought we separated ourselves in the first half. We had a great offensive and defensive start. Our ability to hold our opponents to 15 points with 5 minutes remaining in the half with the combination of shooting 61% from the field allowed us to impose our will from the beginning of the game. I thought we won the mental part of the game. Yesterday we challenged our guys to be smarter players on the floor by eliminating unforced errors and owning their roles. I thought that alone allowed us to execute on both ends of the floor."
The Patriots will be back in action on Saturday Novemeber 26th as the play Neumann University in the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic at Gwynedd Mercy University. Tip-Off is set for 6:00 pm.
Go Patriots!
